Method of Allocation of International Tuition Scholarships

Method of Allocation of Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS), Monash International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (MIPRS) and the Vera Moore International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (VMIPRS)

Monash will offer approximately 70 MIPRS and may offer 1 VMIPRS in the coming scholarship selection round.

IPRS

This scholarship covers the full tuition fee and Overseas Student Health Cover.

Applicants who are citizens of all overseas countries, excluding New Zealand, and who are commencing full-time study for a full-time research masters degree, PhD or research professional doctorate are eligible for these awards. Applicants who commenced their research candidature in 2009 may be considered for an IPRS only if they were unable to apply for a scholarship in the last selection round.

MIPRS

This scholarship covers the full tuition fee and Overseas Student Health Cover.

Existing MGS-only awardees may be considered for these awards in the forthcoming and subsequent scholarship selection rounds subject to the standard condition that applies to centrally allocated awards, that is:

“awards will not be available to those who, as a result of prior candidature and/or scholarship, would be entitled to a maximum tenure of less than 12 months.”

If existing MGS awardees are ranked high enough to receive an MIPRS the relevant faculty will not lose the equivalent number of MGSs from their 70% quota.  However, in calculating the 30% formula, the faculty's "tail" we be reduced by the number of ranked MGS awardees seeking MIPRS support.

VMIPRS

The most prestigious of the university's international tuition award, the Vera Moore International Postgraduate Research Scholarship is part of an award package which also covers compulsory overseas student health cover fees. A research allowance of $550 per annum is also included as part of the package.

Method of Allocation

The selection criteria for the above awards is the same for IPRS except that students already part way through their course may also be considered for an MIPRS or VMIPRS.

The Scholarship Selection Sub Committee will:

  • first allocate the available IPRS awards according to the relative position of eligible international students on their respective order of merit lists;
  • then allocate the VMIPRS award to the next eligible applicant, in accordance with the same selection formula applied to IPRS;
  • then allocate the MIPRS awards to the next eligible applicants, in accordance with the same selection formula applied to IPRS;

The Monash Research Graduate School will:

  • subsequently upgrade IPRS-eligible students who have been offered the VMIPRS or a MIPRS to an IPRS, as IPRS awardees decline their awards;
  • offer the VMIPRS and MIPRS to other eligible international students as MIPRS are freed up in this process.
