Scholarship selection criteriaDepartmental and faculty review of applicationsThe Monash Research Graduate School forwards copies of all applications to departments and faculty committees for initial assessment. Faculty order of merit listsIn consultation with their departments, faculties draw up order of merit lists based on the academic records and research experience of H1 and H1E equivalent applicants. Applicants who, as a result of prior candidature and/or scholarship, would be entitled to a maximum tenure of less than 12 months will not be ranked by faculties. Faculty quotas: stipend awardsAward allocation is based upon a quota of awards to each faculty. This allocation is derived principally from a formula consisting of three elements: the number of completions, research income and publications (70 per cent); and the quality and size of the particular year’s application cohort for each faculty (30 per cent). Scholarship selection is undertaken by a sub-committee of the Research Graduate School Committee – the Scholarships Selection Sub-Committee. After reviewing each faculty’s order of merit list, the sub-committee draws up a composite university-wide order of merit list. All applicants eligible for an APA are first ranked in order of academic merit. This is done by comparing the top candidates from each of the faculty lists. When one candidate from a particular faculty’s list is selected, the next in order of merit on that faculty’s list will then face comparison with the top remaining candidates from each of the other faculty lists. The procedure is repeated for the selection of Monash Graduate Scholarships until the faculty allocations are filled. Selection of international fee-paying scholarshipsThe university’s IPRS, MIPRS and VMIPRS awards are allocated to the most highly ranked eligible applicants. Detailed information on the selection procedures and processes for the annual scholarship selection round is contained in the Postgraduate Research Scholarship Selection Principles and Procedures Manual. |
