Monash Research Graduate Centre

The Monash Research Graduate Centre is one of the key facilities available for postgraduate research students, offering free services to research students from any Monash campus 24 hours each day. The centre is located in building 3E at the Clayton campus, next to the Research Graduate School, and offers:

  • Computer, printing and photocopier facilities
  • IT support staff
  • Wireless network
  • Seminar and lounge area
  • Lockers
  • Kitchen facilities

Postgraduate students enrolled at the Clayton campus can also apply for shared office space at the centre.

Space for study and networking

It is important to access (any specific) space available for postgraduate students at your campus in order to meet other students and share common experiences. You should first check with your postgraduate coordinator to see what facilities there are available in your department or faculty.

The Joint Academic Scholarships Online Network (JASON), the national online database, lists postgraduate scholarships available across Australia.

The exPERT program

FREE seminars and workshops are offered to Monash research postgraduate students across all campuses through the exPERT program. These focus on key aspects of employment and skills development under the following categories:

General
These seminars and workshops offer students general training and information in a wide range of areas including those related to the successful and timely completion of candidature as well as personal development.

Information technology
A hands-on workshop program involving three-hour workshops in computer labs. The program allows students to improve their skills in the use of popular software packages such as EndNote, PowerPoint and Word.

Statistics
These two-hour seminars that explain various statistical methods, concepts and software packages, are presented by members of the university’s Statistical Consulting Service.

Intellectual property
At monthly seminars, lawyers from some of Melbourne’s best known legal firms offer advice on intellectual property. Topics include IP basics, the university’s statute and regulations, assignment and licensing, patents and commercialisation.

Teaching
These workshops offer practical training on how to run successful tutorials and lectures.

Writing skills
Five related workshops help hone writing and editing skills, outline how to write a good abstract, and make your thesis more readable.

There are also seminars for final year candidates, general information seminars and exPERT Replay sessions.

Access to seminar materials
Students who are unable to attend seminars or workshops can access material through:

  • Digital online audio recording facilities
  • Recorded exPERT seminars on DVD, which can be viewed in small groups or in the student’s home or office.

Summer series
The Summer exPERT seminars and workshops program, which runs from November until March, ensures sessions are available throughout the year.

For details of all exPERT seminars and workshops, and to register your attendance visit the exPERT Program section on the Research Graduate School website.
