Level 2

Level 2 of the Supervisor Accreditation program consists of a series of Master Classes, which commenced in 2005 following a review of research supervision training. They are designed both for new supervisors and more experienced supervisors wishing to refresh their skills.

Level 2 accreditation allows a supervisor to supervise a maximum of 12 research students.

The master class program consists of:

Master Class 1 Case Studies on the Breakdown of the Student-Supervisor Relationship
Master Class 2 External Supervision & Supervision in Teams
Master Class 3 Power Relationships and Dealing with Students from Different Cultures
Master Class 4 Introduction to Intellectual Property
Master Class 5 How to Examine a Thesis
Master Class 6 Case Studies in Building Research Teams
Master Class 7 Project Design in the Humanities & Social Sciences (Faculty of Arts)
Master Class 8 Ethics
Master Class 9 HDR Publication & Co-publication: Possibilities and Protocols (Faculty of Arts)
Master Class 10 Challenges of mid-candidature (Faculty of Arts)

Level 2 Accreditation Requirements

To obtain Level 2 Accreditation, you must attend a total of 5 Master Classes.

Compulsory Master Class for all supervisors is:
Master Class 4 - Introduction to Intellectual Property

It is also compulsory for Faculty of Arts Supervisors to attend:
Master Class 7 - Project Design in the Humanities & Social Sciences (Faculty of Arts)
And 1 of the following:
Master Class 9 - HDR Publication & Co-publication: Possibilities and Protocols (Faculty of Arts)
OR
Master Class 10 - Challenges of mid-candidature (Faculty of Arts)

If you find that the session you are interested in is booked out or not scheduled to run you can add your name to a wait-list and you will be notified when a session or place is available. Once you have completed the requisite Master Classes, you can apply for Level 2 accreditation by completing the
