Why are HDR completions now so important?

Completions determine 50% of the RTS formula for HDR allocation.

It also helps drive the institutional grants scheme (IGS).

The IGS is allocated to each university on its performance in three areas:

  • 60% research income

  • 10% publications and

  • 30% HDR load

Thus, completions also affect the IGS:

More completions means more RTS which means more HDR load for the IGS scheme.

More HDR load (from completions) will in turn generate HDR publications which further drives IGS.
