Research Training Scheme

Faculty funding from 2006

Monash's internal distribution principles shall mirror the government's revised RTS policy. Thus it is intended that the following allocation procedures shall apply from 2006:

  • 25% of each faculty's current load allocation will be placed in a central pool, and then reallocated back to faculties in accordance with their relative RTS formula performance;

  • a discretionary allocation of 100 places will be made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) on the basis of the relative performance of academic units on national and international research quality indicators and the strategic objectives of the university;

  • A 5% floor shall apply so that no faculty will receive less than 95% of its previous year's load allocation;

  • Given the unique features of its research portfolio, the allocation of HDR load from the central pool to the Faculty of Art and Design will be based solely upon the HDR completions component of the formula;

  • Any unused RTS load will be redistributed to faculties with funding shortfalls in April each year, as per existing arrangements.

As in previous years the funding for the allocated places will be based on the relevant high cost/low cost discipline mix in each faculty.
