Chapter 4: Changes to candidature

4.4 Lapse of candidature

If a candidate has not submitted a thesis by the maximum approved end date, the candidature will lapse. However, in special circumstances, the Research Graduate School Committee may allow a former candidate to submit the thesis for examination any time within three calendar years of that lapse of candidature under sub-section 18.2 of the doctorate regulations and 19.2 of the masters by research regulations.

Where a doctoral or MPhil candidate allows his/her candidature to lapse by failing to re-enrol or failing to meet the requirements of his/her degree, such as submission of an annual progress report, the candidate will not be re-admitted within four years of the candidature lapsing, unless the Research Graduate School Committee considers exceptional circumstances warrant an earlier re-admission.(S10 and S9 of doctoral and M Phil regulations respectively)
