Chapter 3: Conditions of candidature3.2 Doctoral and MPhil candidates' research environment3.2.1 Place of candidatureDoctoral and MPhil candidates are required to undertake their research program in a department, school, academic unit, centre or faculty of the University. Research units or hospitals affiliated with the University under Statute 10.1 are also deemed to be a part of the University for the purpose of the regulations, provided they offer both a suitable intellectual environment and facilities for research training for doctoral and MPhil candidature that are at least comparable to those offered by the University. Some centres that report through a faculty may also be approved for the purposes of doctoral and MPhil enrolment. Appendix B outlines accreditation procedures for centres. Other sites may also be approved in exceptional circumstances as a research site for individual doctoral and MPhil candidates. Candidates may also be permitted in certain circumstances to pursue a part of their research at other research institutions and locations outside the university. (For further information, see section 4.3 ' Studying away from the university'.) |
