2. Find a potential supervisor/s and identify your research area
To successfully apply for a research degree, all applicants must identify the area in which they want to undertake research. There are two ways to do this:
Nominate a preferred supervisor
- If you have an existing relationship with Monash academic staff, contact them to discuss possible areas of research and define a specific area of interest.
- In your Candidature Application Form you can nominate your preferred supervisor.
Identify a field of research
- If you are an external and/or international applicant, without existing relationships at Monash, you should review the website for active research areas of various faculties and institutes.
- Based on active research areas, you should identify the area in which you would like to undertake your research.
More information
- If you require support in defining research areas please contact our research degrees team via an online enquiry.
- Once you have submitted a candidature proposal, the University will try to match you with a preferred or nominated supervisor – the final decision will be based on supervisor availability and suitability.
