Intellectual Property Seminars 2006

Intellectual Property is an important issue
for supervisors and postgraduate research students.

The Monash Research Graduate School, in association with the Monash Science Technology Research and Innovation Precinct (Monash STRIP) and Monash Commercial will be running seminars on Intellectual Property issues throughout 2006.

For supervisors, attendance at one of these seminars will be credited towards qualification in the Master classes, Level 2 of the Research Supervision Training program.

Schedule

Time : 4:00 to 6:00pm on Mondays

Dates : 13 and 27 February, 27 March, 15 May, 5 June, 3 July, 14 August, 25 September, 6 November and 4 December 2006.

The Richard Baker Senate Prize

The President of the Australian Senate, Senator the Hon P aul Calvert, invites entries for the Richard Baker Senate Prize, valued at $3000, for the best essay, article, thesis, dissertation, book or journalism (in any medium) relating to the work of the Australian Senate.

Entries may be submitted by their authors or nominated by any other person.

ARHRFs' Goals

  • To provide financial support to Research Projects within Australia which will enhance the Health of the Community
  • To stimulate research activities within Australia by facilitating communication between participants in specified fields 
  • To encourage projects which may have a practical outcome capable of being applied by community groups.

Wildlife Preservation Society Grant
Closing date: Applications must be received by 31 May 2006, and must follow the guidelines set out on the WPSA website.

The Wildlife Preservation Society of Australia will provide ten grants of $1,000 each to honours or postgraduate students conducting research that will contribute to the conservation of Australian wildlife. Funds will be provided for purchase of equipment and consumables, travel expenses related to field research, or attendance of conferences at which the student is presenting their work.

The aims of the scheme are to:

  • benefit the preservation of Australian wildlife by supporting applied scientific research with a conservation focus;
  • further the Society’s commitment to environmental education by supporting students with a research interest in conservation.

Applicants are required to be a member of the Society, and those wishing to join can do so at www.wpsa.org.au


Summer Course Scholarships on Turkish Language and Culture granted by the Turkish government
Closing date: Application forms should reach the Ministry of National Education through diplomatic channels by 31 May 2006 the latest.

A-INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS

1-Scholarships are open to graduates and students of universities or higher education institutions who are interested in attending summer courses on Turkish Language and Culture offered by the branch offices of the Turkish Language Learning Center (TÖMER) in İstanbul, İzmir, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa and Samsun.

2- Monthly scholarship allowance is 175.- New Turkish Liras for the year 2006.

3- Scholars do not pay any registration or tuition fees.

4- Duration of the scholarships is two months.

5- Scholarships will start on 1 July 2006 and end on 31 August 2006

6- Candidates awarded with a scholarship will be provided with free accommodation at state dormitories affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, on condition that there are places available. No grants are available for those refusing state accommodation. The candidates can take advantage of low-cost food in the dormitories to be paid by them selves. Travel expenses to, and from Turkey will be met by the scholars or their governments.

7- Monthly scholarship allowance can only meet the needs of one person thus it is essential that the scholars have to come to Turkey alone. Additional allowance for accompanying members of the family is not available.

8- The expenses of scholars’ medical treatment will be met by the Turkish government (Except for long-term illnesses, complex operations, orthodontics, prosthesis and tooth prosthesis).

9-The Turkish government will meet the medical care expenses for scholars (Except for long-term illnesses, complex operations, orthodontics, prosthesis and tooth prosthesis).

B-QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED - The candidates:

1- Should not be citizen of the Republic of Turkey.

2- To be a graduate or student of a university or other Higher Education Institution.

3- Should not have any medical problems to participate in the course in Turkey.

C-APPLICATION AND SELECTION

1-Since the Turkish Government provides these scholarships through the relevant governments, the candidates should make their application through the relevant authorities of their own government.

2- The candidates are selected by a joint committee including a member from the Turkish Diplomatic Mission abroad.

3-Graduates or students of Turkish Language Departments of Universities are preferred.

4-One substitute candidate for three scholarships and two substitute candidates for more scholarships will be nominated along with the principal candidates.

D-DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

1- Two application forms completed without leaving any blank areas, and filled in Turkish, English or French.

2- Two copies of University Diploma or document stating that the applicant is already a student certified by the Turkish Mission abroad, and its Turkish, English or French translation if the diploma or the document is in another language.

3-An official Medical Report stating that the candidate is medically eligible to attend the course in Turkey. (The report will be taken from a state institution).

4- 3 photos.

E-ACCEPTANCE AND RELATED MATTERS

1- The final decision on the acceptance of the candidates is made by the Turkish authorities.

2- Application forms should reach the Ministry of National Education through diplomatic channels by 31 May 2006 the latest.

3- Incomplete documents and documents arriving later than May 31, 2006 will not be considered.

4- Scholars will not set out for Turkey before they are informed through diplomatic channels about their acceptance. Otherwise they will not be able to claim for any rights.

5- Officially invited scholars shall notify the Turkish authorities of their arrival date at least 10 days before their departure for Turkey.

Injection of funds for Travel Grants 2006

Central funding available for travel grants in 2006 has more than doubled , giving a sum total of up to $720,000 available through both the Postgraduate Travel Grant and the Equity Travel Grant schemes!

The Postgraduate Travel Grant is available to assist with the travelling expenses of doctoral and research Masters candidates prior to thesis submission. This will provide up to $1175 towards airfares during course of candidature, and the chance of exposure to national and international peer review and professional debate with researchers of international standing. It also promotes the forging of ties between Monash candidates and those engaged in similar activities outside Victoria in other institutions and at fieldwork sites.

Applications are open to part-time or full-time Monash postgraduate research degree candidates with a research component of at least 66%, enrolled in Australia or overseas. External mode doctoral candidates required to attend a Monash University campus in order to carry out part of their research project or present their work at a conference, may also apply.

NEW - Monash Access Equity Postgraduate Research Travel Grants Approximately 80 special travel grants are available, each up to a value of $3000 for travel within Australia and overseas, conference registration, accommodation etc. Australian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for these equity awards.

Equity selection criteria may include:

•  a disability or long-term medical condition;
•  socio-economic disadvantage and/or
•  adverse long-term family or domestic circumstances.

Eligible applicants may apply for both the existing Postgraduate Travel Grants and the Monash Access Equity Postgraduate Research Travel Grants. However, successful applicants will only be able to accept one award with respect to any single period of study away. If deemed ineligible for the Access Equity Travel Grant, they will automatically be considered for the standard Postgraduate Travel Grant.

Postgraduate Publications Award
Closing date:
31 March, 30 June, 30 September and 31 December each year

The Postgraduate Publications Award is open to postgraduate research students who have submitted or are about to submit their thesis. The scheme provides support for students who wish to prepare some of their research for publication while they wait for their examination results.
